Brexit WARNING: Boris Johnson fears the UK risks NOT leaving EU after Brexit delay

The leading Brexiteer addressed the Article 50 extension at The Daily Telegraph’s ‘Boris on Brexit Live’ event yesterday. At the event, he highlighted the risks of not supporting Mrs May’s deal. Mr Johnson said: “If we vote for the PM’s lamentable withdrawal agreement we are skewered.

“We run the risk of either weakening the Union, or else being forced to remain effectively part of the single market and customs union.

“But if we vote it down again there is now I think an appreciable risk that we will not leave at all.”

The former Foreign Secretary cited the whole problem with the last three years has been a “lack of direction”.

He said: “We are now faced with an even wider range of destinations – second referendum, general election, longer extension, or the Boles/Letwin model – Norway/customs union/plus backstop – none of which correspond remotely to what the people voted for; none of which delivers Brexit.”

Mr Johnson attacked Mrs May for breaking a promise to the UK by not leaving on March 29.

He wrote: “This Government has decided not to fulfil the mandate of the people.

“They have decided not to leave on Friday, March 29.

“They have broken a promise the PM made more than 100 times at the despatch box – and the public is entitled to ask: why?”

He went on to claim Government delayed Brexit because “they want to bully and browbeat Parliament into agreeing Punic terms on which the EU insists”.

Former Conservative MP Anna Soubry hit out at Mr Johnson’s column for being “offensive”.

She wrote on Twitter: “Please read and retweet this offensive utter twaddle from arguably the most irresponsible Foreign Secretary ever.

“A former Leave leader who spun lies & made fake promises to trick good people into voting Brexit, who would be our PM and wonder no longer why I left the Tory Party.”
