Brexit betrayal: Lib Dems’ 'hideous' attempt to cancel EU exit sparks OUTRAGE on Twitter

In a shocking move, acting Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey announced that there needs to be an investigation into the EU referendum and its result. The party will table an amendment to Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Withdrawal Agreement Bill.

The amendment will reportedly call for an inquiry within six months of the bill being passed.

The inquiry is likely to look into former Prime Minister David Cameron’s decision to hold the referendum in the first place, the finances and the conduct of politicians during the campaign.

This will also include the Government’s handling of the Article 50 process.

The Lib Dems are also planning to look at the Tories’ handling of key Brexit decisions, which includes the Government’s refusal to hold a second referendum.

However, the sly move has left social media users frustrated, branding the attempt, “hideous”.

One Twitter user called Paul said: “I’m demanding you anti-democratic losers STFU and go live in an EU country if you love it that much.

“The only catastrophe you should be holding an inquiry into is the hideous trouncing you and the other lying, anti-Brexit losers got in the election.

“A clue is in the result.”

“It smells highly of somebody wanting to re-fight lost battles.”

Another angry user said: “’Public’ inquiry? The public literally got together on 12th December and decided what they think of Brexit.

“Move on, dear. You’ve lost again.”

However, some Twitter users said a public inquiry is “crucial”.

One user said: “It is important politicians and commentators keep pressing for a full, independent, Brexit inquiry.

“New evidence continues to emerge. This story isn’t going away.

“The messaging is crucial. This isn’t about Remain or Leave winning. It’s about our democracy losing if nothing’s done.”

Sir Ed said: “Countless lies by our prime minister, others in the Tory Party and beyond, means questions must be asked about the result of the referendum in 2016.

“The past three years have only gone to show how much deceit was used during the campaign, as well as how determined the Conservative government is to hide the true impact of what they’re trying to unleash.

“We must address the decisions made around the referendum, but also the shambolic approach taken by the Conservatives in the years since.

“To truly understand the events leading up to Brexit, there must be a public inquiry.”
