Gareth Southgate has named his final 23-man squad for England’s UEFA Nations League finals campaign.
Kieran Trippier, Harry Winks, James Ward-Prowse and Nathan Redmond are the four men to miss out from the initial 27-man squad.
It marks quite the fall from grace for Tottenham right-back Trippier, less than a year on from his World Cup semi-final goal which had the country throwing pints in the air outside pubs up and down the land.
Tripper was widely regarded as one of the Three Lions’ best performers in Russia, but has endured a difficult campaign for Spurs, struggling for form throughout the 2018-19 season.
It has led to speculation he could head away from north London this summer, with Napoli and Atletico Madrid both understood to be pondering a move for the ex-Burnley man.
Southampton duo Ward-Prowse and Redmond were given the chance to stake their claim but will not be on the plane to Portugal.
Trippier’s club teammate Winks, who has had injury problems this season, will also play no part in the four-team tournament.
England face the Netherlands in their semi-final in Guimaeres, while hosts Portugal will face Switzerland in Porto.
