Boris Johnson slaps down top aide Dominic Cummings for saying people should not watch the news

BORIS Johnson slapped down his top aide Dominic Cummings after he said the public shouldn’t watch the news.

Quizzed about the PM’s choice of language in the Brexit debate, Mr Cummings told Sky News: “Everyone watching at home should know, don’t watch the news because it’s almost all bulls***.”

But the PM’s spokesman attempted to distance Mr Johnson from the comments, saying: “People will entirely make their own decisions about what they do with their own time.”

On Thursday Mr Cummings – the mastermind behind the Vote Leave campaign – risked stoking further tensions by saying he was “not surprised some people are angry” at MPs for blocking a No Deal Brexit.

He said that both Leave and Remain campaigners have had “serious threats” of violence, which should be taken seriously.

Mr Cummings added: “In the end the situation can only be resolved by Parliament honouring its promise to respect the result.”

He described the current chaos as “a walk in the park” compared to the referendum during which he was Vote Leave campaign director.
