BORIS Johnson has claimed his New Year Caribbean holiday was a £15,000 gift from Carphone Warehouse founder David Ross – but the tycoon has denied it.
The PM declared he and girlfriend Carrie Symonds accepted accommodation for a private holiday in St Vincent and the Grenadines following his election win.
At the time Mr Johnson and Ms Symonds went on holiday, it was reported they were visiting the private island Mustique.
The details of the December 26 to January 5 trip were recorded in Mr Johnson’s entry in the Commons register of members’ interests.
Under the “nature of benefit” heading, Mr Johnson’s entry in the register stated: “Accommodation for a private holiday for my partner and me, value £15,000.”
The name of the donor was put as “Mr David Ross” – however the Mail reports the tycoon denies that owns the villa and paid for the PM’s stay.
A spokesman for the businessman said: “Boris Johnson did not stay in David Ross’s house.
“Boris wanted some help to find somewhere in Mustique, David called the company who run all the villas and somebody had dropped out.”
Boris and Carrie’s luxury break is a cut above those taken by previous PMs.
His predecessor Theresa May goes on annual walking holidays around Snowdonia, Wales.
David Cameron was a regular visitor to Cornwall — but took wife Samantha to Lanzarote for a short break.
And in 2009, Gordon Brown took his family to the Lake District.
