K-Pop star G-Dragon was welcomed by thousands of fans after he was officially discharged from the military.

G-Dragon, a member of veteran K-Pop group Big Bang, was discharged from mandatory service on Saturday morning.

Nearly 3000 fans waited to see him as he stepped out in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

In his uniform, he bowed to V.I.P waiting for him and said: ‘I’ve returned after completing my military service. Thank you for waiting for me and for coming to see me today. I will be returning to my original occupation, and I will work hard.’

The star’s family were also there to meet him, and threw him a welcome home party, with his sister Kwon Da Mi sharing photos of decorations on Instagram.

The rapper and Big Bang leader, real name Kwon Ji Yong, enlisted on 27 February 2018. He served in the 3rd Infantry Division at Cheorwon, Gangwon Province.

Fellow Big Bang members Daesung and Taeyang are also due to be discharged later this year.

The group, which debuted in 2006 under YG Entertainment, was originally made up of five members – G-Dragon, Taeyang, Daesung, T.O.P. and Seungri – and released such hits as Fantastic Baby, Bang Bang Bang, Loser and FXXK IT.

However in March this year singer Seungri retired from the entertainment industry amid allegations of providing sexual escort services to foreign investors and VIP clients – allegations he has previously denied.

In a statement on Instagram at the time Seungri said: ‘At this moment, it seems like it would be good for me to retire from the entertainment industry. I’ve decided to retire from the entertainment industry because of the huge social controversy that has arisen. I am under investigation, and I will receive investigation with sincerity so that the building suspicions can be revealed.

‘During the past month and a half, I have received criticism and hate from the public and been in a situation where every investigative agency in this country is investigating me. I just cannot accept causing pain to those around me just for my sake.

‘I would like to sincerely thank all of the fans both in and out of Korea who have shown me love for the past ten years. For the sake and honor of Big Bang and YG, [my career is] ending here.

‘I would like to apologise one more time.’
