Beyonce releases surprise 'Homecoming' live album as documentary arrives on Netflix

Beyonce has surprised fans by dropping a new live album to accompany her Netflix documentary.

While fans were expecting the release of ‘Homecoming’ today, she’s now released a live album which features a recording of  her entire Coachella 2018 headline performance –  including the live versions of ‘Sorry’, ‘Drunk In Love’ and ‘Crazy In Love’.

Some of the other highlights of the 40 track record include a cover of ‘Before I Let Go’, the 1981 song by Frankie Beverly and Maze which appears over the end credits of the documentary.

There’s also new material in ‘Before I Let Go’ – her first original release since teaming up with Jay-Z on 2018’s ‘The Carters’.

It comes only hours after eagle eyed fans noticed that lyric website Genius had listed a new album, titled ‘B7’, with an expected release date of 18 April.

But the release of the record is seemingly at odds with the listing – arriving some 24 hours beforehand.

As for the documentary itself, it features footage of Beyonce preparing for her historic Coachella performance, and also offers an intimate look at Beyonce’s home life with husband Jay-Z and children Blue Ivy, Rumi and Sir.

A Netflix statement confirmed: “Homecoming presents an intimate look at Beyoncé’s historic 2018 Coachella performance that paid homage to America’s historically black colleges and universities. Interspersed with candid footage and interviews detailing the preparation and powerful intent behind her vision, Homecoming traces the emotional road from creative concept to cultural movement.”
