Better Call Saul season 5 release date, cast and more

Better Call Saul won’t be back on Netflix UK this year. The talent behind the show want to make season 5 as good as it can possibly be, and it appears that they need more time to work on the story and the scripts before more episodes are filmed. This is likely the right decision, as we wouldn’t want to see a decline in quality in the series, but it does mean we’ll be waiting an extra year for it to arrive.

The Breaking Bad prequel show has knocked it out of the park so far, charting the fall of lawyer Jimmy McGill, as he slowly deconstructs into a shady palm-greaser and helping hand for all sorts of dubious clients – season 1 of Better Call Saul saw him starting out a world away from the Saul Goodman we knew in Vince Gilligan’s previous series set in the same universe.

Better Call Saul season 5 release date

Unfortunately, season 5 has now been delayed until 2020. AMC’s President of Entertainment Networks, Sarah Barnett, broke the news to us all in an interview with Vulture recently.

“We said on our most recent earnings call that the series would come back for season five next year,” she said. “It’s driven by talent needs, which we would not override if it would result in a worse show.”

“The show is finite and, for better or for worse, we’re telling a story with a beginning and a middle and an end, and it really feels like we’re closer to the end than to the beginning,” admitted Better Call Saul‘s co-creator Peter Gould previously. “I don’t know how many more seasons we’ve got for sure and obviously some of that is a question of how much more story there is to tell and some of it is hopefully enough people watch to continue having it as a going concern.”

Better Call Saul season 5 cast

Bob Odenkirk will of course be back as Jimmy, with Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) along for the ride. Meanwhile, you can bet that Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) will be an ongoing presence in season 5.

Lalo Salamanca, aka actor Tony Dalton, will also be a series regular when the show returns, Deadline has confirmed. The site’s sources have informed them that Lalo will be the main villain of season 5.

Better Call Saul season 5 Breaking Bad timeline

Better Call Saul will be virtually tailgating Breaking Bad in season 5, according to Odenkirk.

“It’s coming around and it’s so close that it’s the next thing to happen. It’s so close that you can see it’s right there at the end of the season essentially, but it takes up more time,” he teased. “The Breaking Bad world is assembled very closely, almost at the end of season four. There’s a little bit of time there to go.”

Walter White’s pain in the butt brother-in-law Hank might make an appearance in Jimmy’s life, too, probably without his precious minerals.

“These guys seem to have a healthy dislike for each other the first time they’re on camera together, yeah,” Gilligan remarked about the possibility, as star Odenkirk added: “Something bad happened. Maybe we’ll find out what it is!”
