As Christmas 2020 is drawing nearer we’re all turning to festive movies to bring us a bit of cheer in the run up to December 25.
Many people are already turning to Christmas music early to bring a bit of much needed cheer to 2020, so if you want your films to follow suit – we’ve got you covered.
Luckily Amazon Prime has a Smörgåsbord of delights for you to watch with your loved ones (or snuggled up on your own with some treats and no one to disturb you).
From classics that have just got to be seen at this time of year to a few hidden gems and some future favourites, Amazon has got a bit of everything.
Here are some of the best Christmas films to watch on Amazon Prime in 2020.
The Holiday
Whether The Holiday is a Christmas movie or not is up for debate – but for our purposes right now, it is.
Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet play two unlucky in love women who decide to swap homes and countries, each falling for a local lad – Jude Law in the UK and Jack Black in the US – in the process.
The Snowman
Beautiful animation The Snowman, about a boy who befriends a snowman after it comes to life, is available on the streaming platform. We can hear that song already…
The Best Man Holiday
A college reunion sees eight friends (with incredible wardrobes) get back together for a festive shindig after 15 years, bringing old rivalries and romances to the fore.
The stellar cast includes Regina Hall, Sanaa Lathan and Nia Long.
Home Alone
Is it really Christmas if you haven’t watched Home Alone at least once?
Macaulay Culkin, who turned 40 this year, plays Kevin, a resourceful eight-year-old who fends off two burglars after being left behind at home by his family over the Christmas period.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas
Jim Carrey plays green grump the Grinch who plans to spoil Christmas for the town of Whoville. It’s another wacky, slapstick, rubber-faced turn from the Ace Ventura star.
Last Christmas
Game Of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke stars as Kate, whose downtrodden life changes when she meets Tom, played by Henry Golding (capitalising on his Crazy Rich Asians heart throb status).
It’s the music of George Michael and Wham! that really makes this.
Office Christmas Party
A businessman fights to save his branch by throwing a huge festive bash to impress a big client, but it turns chaotic. A bit like The Hangover but at Christmas.
Krampus
If you prefer your Yuletide scary, you might enjoy Adam Scott and Toni Collette in Krampus.
A family have to fight to survive when a little boy accidentally brings a Christmas demon to their home.
Love Actually
Of course this is on the list. Hugh Grant leads the cast as eight, interconnected couples deal with their love lives in the run up to Christmas in London.
It’s either a romantic classic or a fat-shaming stalker nightmare for women, depending on your point of view, but it is funny.
Arthur Christmas
Before James McAvoy lent his dulcet tones to The Bridge, he was the voice of Arthur, Father Christmas’ clumsy son.
He, along with his grandfather, race against time to return a present to its rightful place after it was mistakenly given away.
Elf
SANTAAAA! (You’ll get it if you watch the film).
This 2003 comedy has become a Christmas classic over the years.
A man, played by Will Ferrell, learns he is a human that was raised as one of Santa’s elves. He sets out from the North Pole to find his real dad in New York.
Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You
With the release of her memoir and her Christmas song re-entering the UK charts earlier than ever before this year, Mariah is having a moment. So it’s only right that you check out her animated film based on the iconic 1994 track.
Featuring the star’s music and narration it tells the story of Mariah’s Christmas wish for a puppy. Will she get it? Watch to find out…
