Benik Afobe has announced that his two-year-old daughter has unexpectedly passed away after a severe infection.
Heartbroken Afobe explained how Amora was rushed to hospital but died following complications – with doctors doing everything they could.
Afobe, who is currently on loan at Bristol City from Stoke, wrote in a statement: “It is with an extremely heavy heart that the Afobe family have today confirmed the devastating news that their first child, their beloved daughter Amora, 2, passed away late on Friday
“Amora was taken to hospital for treatment after unexpectedly developing a severe infection. Unfortunately she then suffered a number of serious complications and despite doctors doing absolutely everything that they possibly could, Amora passed away peacefully with the love of her family by her side.
“The entire family have been left totally devastated and heartbroken, and would like to ask that their privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time.”
Striker Afobe started his career at Arsenal, where he came through the academy with the likes of good friend Jack Wilshere.
He re-joined Wolves are two years on the south coast before making a £12million switch to Stoke – where he has made 50 appearances.
Afobe joined Bristol City on loan in the summer and has scored three times in five appearances at the Robins.
But the DR Congo international is expected to miss the rest of the season with a anterior cruciate ligament injury – after a he suffered a freak injury in training.
