Will Firestorm become another battle royale hit for EA?

An official intro to Battlefield V’s battle royale mode has been discovered online, giving the first detailed look at DICE’s rival to Blackout.

It still seems incredible that EA and DICE prioritised the single-player campaign of Battlefield V over that of a battle royale mode, but they always promised that it would be released in March and it seems a reveal must be imminent.

The video below (assuming EA hasn’t had it taken down) gives an overview of the mode and how it works, which is pretty much the same as any battle royale except with many more vehicles than normal.

Battlefield is already known for its large maps and player numbers so it’s an obvious match for battle royale, although coming out so long after the underperforming main game it’s hard to say what kind of impact it’ll have against free-to-play games such as EA’s own Apex Legends.

The tutorial was found on a public part of EA’s servers, and strangely hasn’t yet been taken down. That may mean that an official reveal is imminent, perhaps even today.

The video confirms a number of expected features, including support for solo, duo, and four-player squads.

You can also spot a Second World War era helicopter and confirmation that classes don’t have any special advantage in Firestorm.

You can also see players opening safes to get higher-tier loot and trying to capture objectives in order to unlock more powerful vehicles.
