Youngster Frenkie De Jong played his last home game for Ajax at the weekend and bid a perfect farewell to the Johan Cruyff Arena.
De Jong helped them all but secure the Eredivisie title with a 4-1 win over Utrecht, putting their Champions League heartache behind them before he departs for the Nou Camp.
After penning a big-money deal in January to make the summer switch to Barcelona , De Jong helped his Ajax side stun Juventus and Real Madrid on their way to the Champions League semi-finals.
They were then left heartbroken by a Spurs comeback – just 24 hours after Barcelona let a 3-0 lead slip to lose 4-3 on aggregate to Liverpool .
Despite their Anfield thrashing, De Jong admitted he watched the game unsure whether he will be needed by the La Liga champions next season.
“It’s been wonderful, I go to Barcelona with great joy,” De Jong said after his final Ajax home game.
“It’s been a fantastic season, although I would have liked to have said goodbye with three titles, but it wasn’t to be.
“I watched the match between Liverpool and Barcelona. I don’t know if they need me!
“Had they been in the final, they could have won the treble.”
De Jong’s in-demand Ajax team-mate Matthijs De Ligt is heavily tipped to follow him to Barcelona.
De Ligt also responded to his future after the final Ajax home game of the season amid links to Manchester United , Liverpool and Juventus.
“I don’t know yet. There have been conversations, but there is still no agreement,” De Ligt said.
