Ballet pumps are back, so here are 21 pairs that are approved by fashion editors

If you’re an eagle-eyed trend-follower, you’ll have noticed the recent, quiet revival of ballet pumps. Though the classic style has never really gone anywhere (just look to the wardrobes of fashion’s most highly regarded), it’s hard to ignore their recent rise in popularity. Easy to style and undeniably comfortable, ballet pumps are the chosen shoe for many-a model, influencer and stylist at the moment. And we want in.

Chanel’s two-tone ballet flats are arguably the silhouette that paved the way for other shoe brands, and they remain the pair to covet today. Loved by the Duchess of Sussex, the signature beige and black design was first created back in 1957 by Gabrielle Chanel herself, and new iterations have appeared on the Maison’s catwalk ever since.

Not that we needed proof of the pump’s pavement potential, but other brands have been following Coco’s suit ever since her success. Elegant flats with contrasting toes can be seen across high street and designer stores, particularly during transitional periods when boots are deemed too warm and sandals too chilly. ASOS, Dune and Russell & Bromley have all cashed in with their own versions, and it’s this bicolour variety that’s the most dominant on our Instagram feeds.

That said, monochromatic ballet pumps can be spotted on the pedicured feet of our favourite celebs just as often. Gucci’s Marmont logo-embroidered quilted leather pair are the ones to be seen in this season, as are Maison Margiela’s eccentric split-toe Tabi ballet flats, but if you’re looking for something gentler on the purse strings then Vagabond’s offerings (namely Delia or Layla) are spot on.
