Bale says he's on course to rediscover best form as he feels loved at Spurs

Gareth Bale believes he is on course to rediscover his best form after feeling the love back in the Premier League at Spurs.

The Wales skipper ended an increasingly miserable spell at Real Madrid in September to return to his old club Tottenham on loan.

Bale, 31, wasn’t wanted by boss Zinedine Zidane or many of the Spanish club’s fans at the Bernabeu despite helping them to four Champions League trophies.

But he is beginning to form a potent attack at second-placed Tottenham alongside Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son after six appearances so far.

Bale started Spurs’ last game in the top-flight alongside the pair and will be up against Manchester City on Saturday.

Gareth Bale is currently away with the Wales national side

But the Wales forward has Finland in his sights first as he aims to secure top spot in Nations League Group B4 and promotion.

Bale, Wales’ record-scorer with 33 goals in 86 games, said: “I feel very happy and I have settled in very well at Tottenham.

“Coming back to a place where you feel loved gives to you the hunger to go again and to play for your fans who you know support you so much.

“It’s nice to be back playing and nice to be where I’m wanted.

“It has definitely helped being back in the UK.

“Hopefully that can continue and I can have a good season for Wales on top.

“Getting my fitness back and being back playing is what makes every player happy.

Bale opened his account for his second spell at Tottenham with a goal against Brighton

“I feel I’m in a good place but there is still more to come, more to improve, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Bale is already off the mark for Spurs after heading the winner against Brighton in the Premier League.

He turned provider against the Republic of Ireland on Sunday to head the ball back across goal for David Brooks to nod the winner.

Now he hopes to take another step on the road to full fitness after missing Wales’ previous camp to work on his comeback at Spurs.

Bale added: “It does take a bit of getting used to the rhythm of playing every few days.

“I’m a bit more stiff than usual, but the more games I’m playing, the better the body is adapting. It will take a bit of time but I’m on the right path.

“I still need to get a little fitter and sharper as it takes a bit of time when you’re a bit older to get back to full fitness.

Bale will be hoping to inspire Wales to finish top of their Nations League group

“Leading into Euros in the summer, that’s where I want to be peaking.”

Victory on Wednesday will not only ensure promotion to the elite tier of the Nations League but also give Wales a potential play-off spot for the next World Cup should they fail to reach Qatar 2022 automatically.

Bale, part of the Euro 2016 semi-finalists side who failed to get to Russia 2018, added: “It gives us that back up in terms of the qualifiers but we want to keep the winning mentality going and go to the Euros and next year.”

Wales are unbeaten in 10 competitive games coming into Wednesday’s game.
