Bailey Peacock-Farrell makes frank admission about his Leeds future

Bailey Peacock-Farrell claims he will only stay at Leeds if he is given assurances that he will play more often.

Peacock-Farrell lost the No 1 slot to Kiko Casilla in January and is considering his future because he has just one year left on his contract at Elland Road.

The Northern Ireland international will not sign new terms with Leeds if he is going to continue to sit on the bench.

Peacock-Farrell, 22, spent 10 months as Leeds’ first-choice keeper before Casilla arrived and knows he needs to play regular first-team football to continue his development.

“If I stay at Leeds, I’ll be staying at Leeds to play,” said the Leeds academy product.

Peacock-Farrell will only agree to stay at Leeds if he plays more often

“The two scenarios would probably be I’m staying at Leeds and I’m playing or I’ll have to be elsewhere I think.”

Peacock-Farrell claims Leeds have yet to open contract talks, despite saying a fortnight ago that they were ready to begin negotiations.

He is underwhelmed by Leeds’ approach and is determined to do what is best for his career.

“They said they wanted to open discussions on a contract, but that was two weeks ago and I still haven’t heard anything,” he said.

“But then they also said that last season. We’re a season gone and it still hasn’t happened. I don’t know what to make of it.

“The aim is to be playing football, I have to. I’m not one of those goalkeepers who could be content with sitting on the bench and picking up a wage.”

Kika Casilla has not impressed since replacing Peacock-Farrell

Casilla’s future is also uncertain and he is said to be considering returning home to Spain because he has not proved to be the safe pair of hands Leeds had hoped he would be following his January move from Real Madrid.
