Following rumours of its demise in February, TV Blackbox reported on Saturday that the network has dropped the troubled format from their prime time schedule.

The industry publication claims the last installment will air next Friday.

‘We can confirm that the very final episode of Pointless will air Friday May 10th. That completes the airing of all episodes filmed,’ the article started.

The local version of the UK quiz show registered an average 220,000 average viewers in nightly Metro 5 Capital City OzTam ratings.

The format was slammed by viewers as the ‘worst show ever’ after making its Australian debut in July, and the program continued to drop in the ratings in the subsequent months it aired.

Fronted by Dr Andrew Rochford and comedian Mark Humphries, the game show famously replaced Family Feud, hosted by Grant Denyer, which had also been experiencing spiraling viewer numbers.

Back in January, Ten’s Head of Programming Daniel Monaghan told TV Tonight the network was disappointed with the show’s performance.

‘I would like it to do better,’ he said. ‘I do think we’ve suffered a little bit from people who watched Family Feud and people who watch Pointless are not at all similar. So we’ve learned a lot.’

Based on the US format created by Friends stat Courteney Cox and ex-husband, David Arquette, the game show will see two teams of two contestants.

With the help of a guest celebrity, the team will attempt to guess the names of movies, singers and other characters by giving strategic descriptions.

Courtney Act, Beau Ryan and Gogglebox’s Yvie Jones and Angie Kent have reportedly expressed interest in appearing on the show.
