Atletico Madrid will 'turn to Alexandre Lacazette' if Edinson Cavani transfer collapses

Atletico Madrid will look to sign Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette should they fail to seal Edinson Cavani’s services.

The Spanish side are looking to add a new forward in the summer having struggled for goals domestically.

Cavani is out of contract in the summer and Atletico are favourites to sign him but Lacazette, who was previously a target before he joined Arsenal , will be pursued should the Uruguayan go elsewhere.

Marca understands that any move for the French forward is very much dependent on where Cavani ends up playing his football next season.

This term Simeone has regularly deployed Joao Felix and Alvaro Morata in attack, but is looking for more options having seen Diego Costa struggle to rediscover the form he last showed in Spain.

Alexandre Lacazette could swap London for Madrid in the summer

The PSG frontman has struggled for opportunities and is now behind Mauro Icardi in the pecking order.

Premier League duo Manchester United and Chelsea as well as Inter Milan are all set to provide Atletico with competition.

Lacazette meanwhile, like Cavani, has his contract winding down and is keeping his options open.

Arsenal are desperate to keep the former Lyon man, but with the club set to experience a period of transition under Mikel Arteta he may seek a move elsewhere.

Edinson Cavani has fallen out of favour at PSG

Before the Gunners paid £46.5m to sign Lacazette in 2017 he had agreed to join Atletico, but their transfer ban prevented the deal from going through.

Since moving to the Emirates the Frenchman has scored 41 times in 106 games having played under four different managers in that time.

Pierre-Emerick Aubemyang’s arrival, sixth months after Lacazette joined, has seen him accept a role out wide or as an option off the bench with the Gabon international preferred.
