Nelly and Ashanti are pregnant! And they’re engaged!

It’s been a rollercoaster romance for the Foolish singer, 43, and the 49-year-old Dilemma rapper, who previously dated for 11 years before going separate ways in 2014.

In December, the pair reunited once more with Ashanti hard-launching her old flame after months of rumours in the most iconic way – via a clutch bag decorated with their faces at last year’s Grammy Awards. Iconic.

But now things have just zoomed onwards and upwards, as Ashanti has announced she’s expecting her first child with Nelly. And they’re engaged.

Announcing the news on Instagram, Ashanti shared a video of her getting ready for a performance, with her mum asking when she will be ready.

‘Uh, I’m gonna need about nine months,’ Ashanti says while opening the curtains, to her now-shocked mum.

Not only do the pair have a baby on the way, but Ashanti also confirmed she and Nelly are engaged while talking to Essence.

‘This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation,’ she said.

‘Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.’

She said fiance, folks. It’s official.

While this baby will be Ashanti’s first child, Nelly already shares two adult children – Chanelle Haynes and Cornell Haynes III – with his ex-partner Channetta Valentine.

He also adopted Shawn and Sydney Thomas, his sister Jackie Donahue’s two children, after she died of leukemia in 2005.

While appearing on the red carpet last year with her hard-launch clutch, Ashanti told People: ‘We’re in a great space, everything is positive, we’re having a lot of fun.’

She also explained that she thought it would be appropriate to feature the photo tribute on her bag as they first exchanged numbers at the VMAs all those years ago.

‘I was like: “Oh, this would be cute”. Everything is lining up in the universe. So I’m happy,’ she told Today.

Appearing on show Boss Moves with Rasheeda around the same time, Nelly remained coy when discussing their bond, saying: ‘Yeah, we’re cool again…

‘I think it surprised both of us, though. It wasn’t anything that was planned. I think we both were pretty much doing what we do.

‘But, sometimes being separate, you understand one another more … and see maybe what they see. We all can be defensive sometimes in our relationships and we know we’re wrong, but we’re going to stand on it. We’re all a victim to that.’

When asked whether things felt ‘good’ during their second time of dating, the musician explained that there was ‘no pressure’ on them.

‘Yeah. I mean because it’s no pressure,’ he added. ‘Before I felt like both of us are doing what we’re doing career-wise. And when you got so many people in the middle of it, it can be tough.’
