As coffee bean prices soar we reveal how to get your daily caffeine fix for less

GETTING your caffeine fix has never cost more.

Coffee prices are set to soar after the world’s largest producer, Brazil, was hit by horrendous weather, it was revealed last week.

Here’s how to get ahead by cutting your cuppa costs now.

BULK BUY: Pick up packs of coffee beans now and store to grind later.

If sealed, they last around six months past their stated shelf life and at most vendors, the more you buy, the greater the discount.

HOME RUN: In lockdown, several kitchen table coffee businesses were set up to help people get their fix and some are really affordable.

I like Penningtons (penningtonscoffee.co.uk) who hand roast their beans in Kendal in the Lake District.

The company offers pay-as-you-go “cancel any time” subscriptions with 250g of coffee (12 mugs) coming in at £8.25.

USE LOYALTY STAMPS: Costa’s new scheme gets you a free hot drink for every eight Beans earned.

Caffe Nero lets you collect stamps on certain food items, too, so you can build up quicker.

GET A REUSABLE CUP: Use a reuseable mug and at Costa you earn double points — collecting two loyalty scheme Beans instead of one — while at Pret you get 50p off per cup.

I love the £7 KeepCup but Wilko has a 450ml travel stainless steel mug for just £2.25, a saving of £4.75 and a bargain.

BAG A BARGAIN MACHINE: Get the Nespresso VertuoPlus Coffee Machine in black for £79 at nespresso.com, down from £179 – that’s £100 off!

Or the smart Logik L15EXC19 espresso coffee machine is usually £49.99 at currys.co.uk but currently, a fiver off.

SWAP SHOPS: At Greggs, a white coffee will set you back around £1.60 and at McDonald’s is usually around £1.40.

That’s a lot cheaper than the average £2.75 at other top brand coffee houses.

If you can stomach down-branding in supermarkets, the Tesco own-brand coffee is £1.75 and the best I’ve tried.
