Arsenal are prepared to rival their north London rivals Spurs in the pursuit of Real Madrid playmaker Dani Ceballos this summer.

The 22-year-old is expected to leave Real Madrid after failing to nail down a first-team place in their star-studded midfield since joining from Real Betis in 2017.

Ceballos has been strongly linked with a move to Spurs as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen who has been tipped to join Real Madrid after admitting he wants a new challenge.

However, Arsenal are also interested in signing Ceballos and are exploring the option of a loan deal with Unai Emery’s transfer budget reported to be just £45m this summer.

Although Real Madrid are looking to offload players who will not start under Zinedine Zidane, they may be receptive to loaning Ceballos out considering his vast potential to improve.

Ceballos, who has four years remaining on his contract, is believed to favour a loan arrangement as he would like to establish himself as a first-team regular at Real Madrid in the future.

Having featured infrequently for Real Madrid since his arrival, Ceballos wants to play 40 first-team games next season and any prospective club would have to offer him that guarantee.

Ceballos seemed to hint that he could be on the move to London on Wednesday when he posted a picture of himself in a red phone box on Instagram from Universal Studios in Florida.

Last season, Ceballos featured 34 times for Real Madrid in all competitions, although he only started three matches following Zidane’s re-appointment in March.
