Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is reportedly planning to sign at least two more players ahead of the new season, and hopes to bring them both in for around £70million.

The Gunners manager has pressed on with his squad rebuild this summer following a record-breaking outlay of £149million last summer as the club brought in Aaron Ramsdale, Nuno Tavares, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Martin Odegaard. But the Spaniard doesn’t want to stop there and has already secured the signings of Brazilian youngster Marquinhos, American goalkeeper Matt Turner and Portuguese playmaker Fabio Vieira.

He now reportedly has Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus and Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez in his sights to help his side push for that elusive Champions League spot next season. It comes with reports coming out of Italy suggesting Arsenal have also submitted a bid for Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

And Fabio Vieira’s agent Jorge Mendes has reportedly pocketed a sizeable fee for his involvement in the former Porto player’s switch to north London.

Here are Mirror Football’s latest Arsenal headlines.

Arteta’s £70m double swoop

Mikel Arteta reportedly wants to bring Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus and Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez in before the end of the summer transfer window.

Reports suggest that the Gunners have a budget of around £70million to secure the two signings, which will be the club’s next priority following the signing of Porto’s Fabio Vieira. Arteta is thought to want Jesus to lead his attack following the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January and Alexandre Lacazette this summer.

City reportedly value Jesus at £50m, although the player only has one year left on his contract at the Etihad. Meanwhile Martinez would provide competition at centre-back alongside Gabriel, Ben White, Rob Holding and William Saliba, although his arrival could potentially allow one of those players to leave.

Morata bid ‘made’

Arsenal have reportedly submitted a bid for Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

The Gunners are targeting a new centre-forward this summer, with former Chelsea forward Morata thought to be among Mikel Arteta’s potential targets. Morata has just finished the last of a two-year loan spell at Juve, with the Italian club reportedly keen to make the move permanent.

But reports have suggested they face stiff competition for the player’s signature, with Arsenal having already submitted a bid for the striker.

Mendes’ eye-watering payment

Fabio Vieira’s agent Jorge Mendes reportedly pocketed a tidy £3.4m from the player’s transfer from Porto to Arsenal.

Super-agent Mendes is well-known for brokering some of the biggest transfers in football having represented the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruben Dias and Fabinho. And his latest move has seen him receive 10 per cent of Vieira’s transfer fee – worth £30million up front, with a further £4m in add-ons.
