Arsenal director drops hint about transfers ahead of the January window

Arsenal managing director Vinai Venkatesham has hinted that the club will not be splashing the cash in the January transfer window.

The Gunners brought in six new players in the summer including record-signing Nicolas Pepe, spending around £140million in total.

Venkatesham explained that the club view the summer window as the main one in which to do business, adding that they will simply look to sign cover – should it be needed – in January.

The director told Bloomberg: “Well listen, we’ve just been through the transfer period in the summer, that’s what we always call the main transfer window.

“We were very aggressive in that transfer window, signing a number of new players that we’re very excited about, predominately targeting young players that we believe can grow and develop with us over future years.

“When we look forward to January, we’ll see when January comes. I’d say that we always treat the summer window as being the more strategic window.
