Arsenal and Man City set to be stunned as Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl eyes Joe Aribo

Aribo, 22, is out of contract this summer and has made it clear that he won’t be extending his contract despite Lee Bowyer pushing him to do so since the start of the year.

He joined the South-East London side from non league Staines Town four years ago and has been closely watched by a number of Premier League sides this season.

Arsenal and Manchester City have been keeping a careful watch on his progress over the last few months but Saints are ready to pull the trigger and move for him.

Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic have also had scouts at Charlton games spying on Aribo playing a key role in their promotion push.

Charlton will face Sunderland in the League One play-off final next weekend in a game that could be Aribo’s last with the Addicks.

But boss Bowyer wants to keep hold of the young star.

The manager recently said: “We are trying our hardest to get Joe to sign a contract.

“The speculation with Arsenal, if that is the case, shows we have done a good job with him.

“He was hardly playing last season, now he has got teams like Arsenal supposedly looking at him.

“I’ve spoken to Joe on a number of occasions and he knows how we feel.

“We want him to sign not just for us, but for his own career so we just need to get over this barrier that’s been put in front of us.

“Joe is a good lad. He comes to me and I give him advice and if anything was turning his head or putting him off his game I’m sure he would come and talk to me about it.”
