What are the lyrics to Ariana Grande’s track Ghostin?

(Verse 1)
I know you hear me when I cry

I try to hold it in at night

While you’re sleeping next to me

But it’s your arms that I need this time (This time)

Look at the cards that we’ve been dealt

If you were anybody else

Probably wouldn’t last a day

Heavy tears, a rain parade from hell (From hell)

(Pre-Chorus)
Baby, you do it so well

You been so understanding, you been so good

And I’m puttin’ you through more than one ever should

And I’m hating myself ’cause you don’t want to

Admit that it hurts you

(Chorus)
I know that it breaks your heart when I cry again

Over him, mmh

I know that it breaks your heart when I cry again

‘Stead of ghostin’ him

(Post-Chorus)
We’ll get through this, we’ll get past this, I’m a girl with

A whole lot of baggage

But I love you, we’ll get past this, I’m a girl with

A whole lot of baggage, oh yeah

(Verse 2)
Though I wish he were here instead

Don’t want that living in your head

He just comes to visit me

When I’m dreaming every now and then (And then)

And after all that we been through (And after all that we been through)

There’s so much to look forward to

What was done and what was said

Leave it all here in this bed with you (With you)

What is Ariana Grande’s song Ghostin about?

Ariana told a fan on Twitter: “Ghostin is about “feeling badly [sic] for the person you’re with because you love somebody else.

“Feeling badly because he can tell he can’t compare…. And how I should be ghosting him.”

So it’s clear that the lyrics describe how she still had feelings for Mac Miller while in a relationship with former fiancé Peter Davidson.

Mac Miller died from a drug overdose in September 2018, just four months after their split, and the loss deeply affected Ariana, causing her to ultimately call off her engagement with Pete.

Ariana also refers to Mac in her single Thank U, Next when she sings “Wish I could say, “Thank you” to Malcolm ‘Cause he was an angel.”

What are the Mac Miller references in Ghostin?

In the second verse Ariana talks about a guy who comes to visit her when she’s “dreaming every now and then.”

This is similar to the the verse in Mac’s song Cinderella which he wrote about her – “You in my dreams, that’s why I sleep all the time.”

Also when Ariana sings in the chorus “I know that it breaks your heart when I cry again stead of ghosting him” the ghosting could be a reference to how she felt her engagement with Pete was haunted by her past and the feelings she still had for Mac.

Fans have had a strong reaction to the song on Twitter.

One wrote: “ghostin is really heavy to listen to. LIKE REALLY HEAVY. easily her best song, best ballad, lyrically her best, everything about this song….WOW.”

Another tweeted: “GHOSTIN IS REALLY ABOUT MISSING MAC WHILE SHE WAS WITH PETE I CANT STOP F***ING CRYING.”
