Ariana Grande cancels tour stop because she's 'very sick,' thanks fans for their support

Ariana Grande canceled her scheduled Sunday show after warning her fans the night before that she was “very sick” with a sinus infection and may be forced to cancel upcoming shows on her world tour.

The Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky, announced Sunday afternoon that Grande had cancelled a performance scheduled for that evening.

“Ariana revealed to fans on social media that she was struggling to get better quickly, but she is simply not well enough to perform tonight,” read a tweet from the arena’s official account, adding that ticket holders would be refunded.

The next show on Grande’s Sweetener world tour, which concludes in late December, is scheduled for Tuesday in Atlanta. Neither the venue nor Grande has announced any plans to cancel that show.

Grande, 26, said in a series of Instagram Story posts Saturday that “my throat and head are still in so much pain,” later adding that she couldn’t “swallow or lift my head.”

While her voice sounds OK, “i’m just in a lot of pain and it’s difficult to breathe,” she said in a message to her fans. “i just really don’t know what’s happening with my body right now and need to figure it out.”

Grande said she had plans to see a doctor soon, adding she was “scared that I might have to cancel some things, so this is kind just a heads up of like I don’t know what’s happening with my body, and I’m really disappointed and freaked out of why I can’t get better because it’s been over three weeks at this point.”

She continued: “Sorry for the anxious updates and for over sharing i just don’t want anyone not aware of what’s going on ahead of time. you know i push through and hide things as often as i can / as well as i can when sick and wouldn’t say something unless it were really tough.”

After fans flooded the comments of her Twitter and Instagram pages with well-wishes, Grande took to Twitter the next day to thank them.

“crying,” she wrote Sunday afternoon in a series of posts. “i cant tell u how much i love and appreciate u all or like effectively express what a blessing it is to have u in my life. thank u for your kindness and love. wish i were with u today more than anything. u have no idea.”
