Anthony Russell leaves X Factor Live tour over 'drugs scandal'


The Liverpudlian singer is said to have agreed to leave the X Factor Live tour after it’s claimed suspicious plastic bags were found in his room on Sunday.

It’s claimed Anthony Russell, 29, left just hours before he was due on stage in Hull on Monday.

A source told The Sun: “He’s off the tour completely and he won’t be coming back.

“All the other performers are gutted because Anthony is a lovely bloke. But he’s got these demons he can’t control at the moment.”

A tour spokesman meanwhile told us: “Anthony has had to leave the tour for personal reasons. We would appreciate people respecting his privacy and wish him well for the future.”

Anthony confirmed he is leaving on his Instagram page.

He told his 151,000 followers: “Due to personal circumstance, I’ve had to withdraw from the tour.

“I’m heartbroken to miss the final shows, it has been an honour to sing to you all and a dream come true.”

Anthony, who finished third in last year’s series, was apparently on his last warning over his partying.

The singer first auditioned for X Factor in 2017, where he got through the Six Chair Challenge.

However, according to show insiders, the was axed from the ITV show for taking drugs.

A source told The Sun at the time: “Contestants are closely monitored by the production team. They were alarmed by how erratic he was during filming and decided to confront him.

“He admitted he was a drug user and a decision was quickly taken to remove him.

“It’s a shame, as he was hotly tipped to make the live shows.”

Anthony auditioned again for X Factor last year after judge Louis Tomlinson reached out to him.

He admitted that he would be dead if One Direction star Louis hadn’t reached out to him.

Anthony told The Mirror: “I would be dead now if it was not for him.”

“It got so bad I was drinking every day. I had a decent job on the railway but ruined it all when I turned up drunk and high, off my rocker.”

Louis, 27, went onto mentor Anthony on the show last year.
