Ann Widdecombe attacks ‘treacherous’ Remainers for making Brexit on Oct 31 ‘impossible’

Brexit Party MEP Ann Widdecombe has branded Remainers “treacherous” for taking control of the Commons last week. With the help of Speaker John Bercow, MP’s passed a motion to prevent a no deal Brexit and the MEP has branded the move “profoundly undemocratic”. The motion, which passed into law on Monday, will force Boris Johnson to seek an extension from the EU if a Brexit deal is not passed before the end of next month.

Discussing the Remainers seizure of Parliament last week, Ms Widdecombe told Express.co.uk: “First of all it is profoundly undemocratic.

“Secondly it is pretty well treacherous because what they have actually done is make it impossible for our negotiators in Brussels.

“No deal is the ace on the table and having taken that from the table they have taken away all the pressure that we could put on the EU negotiators.

“So it is a wrecking attack and quite clearly what they want to do is Remain.”

Ms Widdecombe, who served as a Tory MP from 1987 to 2010, praised Mr Johnson’s determination to leave Europe and said: “He’s certainly doing a better job than Theresa May.”

But the Brexiteer vilified Parliament for trying to stop the Prime Minister from honouring the 2016 referendum result.

She said: “Clearly what Parliament have tried to do is make it impossible to honour the existing deadline, they have made it quite impossible to negotiate with any strength.

“They have made it impossible to hold a general election which would let the people decide.”

She warned the Brexit Party had the power to decimate both the Tory and the Labour party vote in the next national vote and it’s up to Mr Johnson to decide what path the party takes.

In a harrowing warning to the Prime Minister, the former Tory MP said: “We can take Labour on in its heartlands and people who wouldn’t vote Tory in a million years would vote for us.”

But Ms Widdecombe says Mr Johnson can increase his chances of securing a parliamentary majority by forging a pact with the Brexit Party – but only if the Tories agrees to leave the EU without a deal.

She said: “We’ve said very clearly to Boris, we couldn’t have said it more clearly that if he agrees to try and leave without a deal and that is what his aim is we will try to deliver him a majority.

“We can take Labour on its heartlands and people who wouldn’t vote Tory in a million years would vote for us.

“We can take Labour on there and reduce the Labour majority and as long as he in turn gives us a free run in other seats and we don’t fight the Brexiteers then you have got a very sensible electoral arrangement and that’s what we have offered.”
