Andrea Bocelli gives stunning Christmas performance of O Come All Ye Faithful – WATCH

Last year, Andrea Bocelli performed a live-streamed concert in conjunction with the release of his Believe album. The special show called Believe in Christmas took place at the Teatro Regio di Parma featuring a festive celebration of music. A few weeks ago, fans of the Italian tenor had the chance to watch an encore version and a clip from the show was released.

Andrea’s rendition of Adeste Fideles, the Latin version of the Christmas carol O Come, All Ye Faithful, is spectacularly Christmassy.

The camera spins around the maestro as dancers in white shirts perform in a circle and fake snow falls from above.

Composed in the 17th or 18th century, the carol’s authorship has been attributed to a number of individuals.

These include hymnist Francis Wade, composer John Reading, anonymous Cistercian monks and even King John IV of Portugal.

Adeste Fideles was first printed in a book by Wade in 1751, with the English version O Come, All Ye Faithful being translated in 1841 by English Catholic priest Frederick Oakeley.

The authorship of the tune is also debated with Wade and Reading being candidates, but even Handel and Gluck being given attribution.

Traditionally, Adeste Fideles is the final anthem during Midnight Mass in the early hours of Christmas Day, held inside St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.

Andrea spoke with Express.co.uk earlier this year about putting on the Believe in Christmas concert and its significance to him during the Christian festivities.

Andrea added: “This is a record that had the ambition to create a positive and contagious ripple effect from the very beginning.

“In fact, Believe is nourished by hope, in the choice of each song on it and in the desire that it be music that is good for the soul. At the end of 2020 it was not yet possible to directly meet the people around the world who were good enough to follow my artistic journey.

“So, the Christmas event was born, conceived under the creative direction of a great artist, Franco Dragone.”

The Italian tenor famously duetted with his then 8-year-old daughter Virginia Bocelli in her professional debut at the concert. Most recently, the pair performed for President Biden at the White House this month, singing Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.
