Amanda Holden slammed for ‘out of touch’ joke about shoes worth ‘a week’s wages’: ‘Thoughtless beyond belief’

Amanda Holden has come under fire from Britain’s Got Talent viewers after she quipped that her shoes were worth “a week’s wages.”

The talent show judge was asked to hand over one of her high heels during magician Graeme Mathews’s act during last night’s live semi-final.

The magician joked that Holden was “letting the side down” as he had noticed “a little bit of dirt on [her] left shoe,” and told her that he could clean it “using magic.”

As she handed over the red soled pump, she warned Mathews: “You’re going to be nice to my shoe. That’s like a week’s wages on that shoe!”

Twitter users were quick to pick up on her comment, slamming it as “thoughtless” and “out of touch.”

“A week’s wages huh?” one Twitter post read. “That’s obscene Amanda. There are people starving in this country who watch BGT. The showboating has got to stop. It’s thoughtless beyond belief.”

“Did Amanda Holden really just say ‘please be careful, that’s a week wages in your hands’ when the guy took her louboutin shoe???? Talk about out of touch,” another viewer said.

“How gross Amanda talking about a shoe being worth a weeks [sic] wages,” a third critical comment read.

Standard Online has contacted a representative for Holden for further comment.

Holden’s semi-final outfits have proved controversial with viewers, with some fans of the show claiming that her revealing dresses are not “appropriate” for a “family show.”

Addressing the backlash in an interview with The Sun, the actress said: “My t**** seem to become the show’s biggest talking point every year.

“We’ve had plenty of complaints apparently, but none from home, let me tell you.”

She also sparked complaints over bad language when she shouted “f***” during The Haunting’s terrifying magical show on Monday night.

Britain’s Got Talent continues tonight at 7.30pm and 9.30pm.
