Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston give away £1 million on Heart Radio

Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston brought the Friday feeling to one very lucky Heart Radio listener by giving them £1 million.

Key worker Tommy Norton received the news while sat parked at the side of the road in his van.

He said the prize money was going to make a “massive” amount of difference to his life and in disbelief, asked Holden and Theakston: “Is this real?”

After he won, he tried to ring his girlfriend, who is a hospital worker.

The prize money, which was awarded on Heart Breakfast, is the largest sum that has ever been given away on UK radio, according to the station.

Holden wore a dress which appeared to made from £50 notes as she revealed the winner.

She appeared as shocked as Norton as she awarded him the prize, saying: “I can’t believe it… this is absolutely real.”

The Heart’s Make Me A Millionaire contest has been running for 11 weeks, with listeners taking part in a daily competition to win a place in Thursday’s final prize draw.

Participants were given the opportunity of walking away with a prize ranging between £1,000 and £30,000 or going into the final draw for £1 million.

In Thursday’s programme, the ten contestants had to pick a number between one and 10, with nine of the numbers corresponding to a £1,000 prize while one contestant won £1 million.

Norton was the last competitor to take part in the draw.
