Former Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has backed Alexis Sanchez’s decision to leave the club.

The Chilean completed a season-long loan move to Inter Milan on Thursday, where he’ll link up with former team-mate Lukaku at the San Siro.

Sanchez’s form suffered terribly during a poor 18 months at Old Trafford and Lukaku was said to be his only close friend at the Theatre of Dreams.

And Lukaku has suggested United will regret their decision to let the Chilean leave.

‘It is a good move for Sanchez. He played in this league before. The people here know him. In the Premier League he did really well when he was at Arsenal,’ said Lukaku.

‘He has had a difficult time at Manchester United. Coming here was the right move, in a good dressing room, where the manager wants winners who can really help the team. He is going to be part of that.

‘He is going to add a lot of competition to the squad we already have. Now it is up to him to show it. I really believe he is going to do well for us. We are here to help him out. Hopefully, he can add that little spark to our team’.

United will pay roughly 40% of Sanchez’s wages while he’s at the San Siro and Inter do not have an option to purchase the Chilean.

Speaking following his move, Solskjaer has suggested Sanchez will return to the club next summer.

‘I am sure we will see Alexis back,’ said Solskjaer.

‘We have just got to hope that he plays regular football for a year now and then he can find his form.’
