Alan Shearer explains why Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang & Alexandre Lacazette should be furious with their Arsenal teammates

Alan Shearer claims he would be screaming in the dressing room at his teammates if he was playing up front for Arsenal in Unai Emery’s current set-up.

The Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer watched on in astonishment as two of the Premier League’s deadliest marksmen were starved of service during Saturday’s damaging 2-0 defeat at Leicester which left Arsenal trailing the Foxes by nine points heading into the two-week international break.

Lacazette, still feeling his way back from an ankle injury which forced him to miss eight games in all competitions, missed Arsenal’s best chance of the match midway through the first half while Aubameyang had a goal correctly ruled out for off-side shortly before Jamie Vardy’s opener.

Emery had asked his front pair to effectively man mark Leicester’s rampaging full-backs and although Shearer maintained that strategy made sense, he was shocked at the lack of ammunition they were given by Arsenal’s midfield.

‘I’ll put myself in their position, Aubameyang and Lacazette,’ said Shearer. What the manager is asking them to do is play slightly wider and track the full-backs.

‘I wouldn’t mind doing that on the proviso that when we get the ball then we’re going to create chances.

‘We’re going to hit Leicester on the break, have neat, tidy passing.

‘I don’t mind going backwards but give me something that I can go and feed off the other way.

‘There was nothing. There was one effort from Lacazette in the first half where he should’ve scored.

‘There was nothing being fed up to these guys to run in behind. I’d be screaming in the dressing room afterwards saying come on give me something to feed on.’
