Data security firm Akamai has partnered with DreamHack 
to support the company’s B2B efforts at this weekend’s DreamHack Summer event in Jönköping, Sweden.
The partnership is also intended to highlight the unique data security hurdles posed to gamers today, such as having game accounts stolen and digital items sold. According to a release, Akamai will “share data security insights and analysis of the threat landscape for the global gaming and esports industry.”
“DreamHack is a major influencer in the video game industry through our 15 global events that will welcome approximately 400,000 visitors in 2019. But we also have tens of millions of viewers and gamers tuning in online, or try to qualify in our online tournaments,” said DreamHack co-CEO Marcus Lindmark, in a release. “Together, with Akamai, we want to lift these questions around online data security and instead help secure the continued growth and success of esports and gaming in a market where threats are increasing and attackers are getting smarter every day. Akamai is a trusted partner in the space and an ideal partner for DreamHack.”

The companies also plan to work together for future events. DreamHack Summer takes place at the Elmia Exhibition and Convention Centre from June 15-17, and the company anticipates more than 50,000 attendees over the course of the weekend.
DreamHack Summer features a number of competitions, including a $100K Counter-Strike: Global Tournament and the Samsung-presented DreamHack Mobile Series. Other DreamHack Summer partners include Doritos , Monster Energy , Twitch , and e-commerce company Komplett.
