Addison Rae faces backlash for Holy Trinity-inspired bikini snap

Addison Rae has deleted an Instagram post in which she wears a bikini displaying the words “Father, Son, Holy Spirit” after she received criticism from fans.

The £82 ($100) two-piece sparked a reaction amongst commenters, some of whom felt that Addison was disrespecting christianity with her swimwear.

“Nah this disrespectful to Jesus. Sad what y’all do for money,” one wrote, with another responding on Twitter: “Not @adidas and Addison Rae blatantly making a mockery of Christianity”. Uh oh.

Addison wore the bikini, which is aptly called the ‘Holy Trinity’, to tease a collaboration between brands Praying and Adidas. Featuring the words “Father” and “Son” on each cup triangle, and “Holy Spirit” on the bottoms, the French version has also been worn by Christina Aguilera on her own Instagram page, though she didn’t receive the same direct criticism.

As yet, neither Addison Rae, Praying or Adidas have responded to the backlash towards the bikini, and it’s still available to shop on the brand’s website.

Praying also shared another image of a model wearing the bikini with her head and hands in a pillory, captioning it with The Smiths’ lyric: “Now I know how Joan of Arc felt.”

The comments keep coming. “Come onnnn, don’t you think this is disrespectful to someone’s religion? I thought we were in a world where we respect each others’ religion (whether we agree with it or not),” one wrote, with another adding: “Whether you support/agree with Christianity or not, doesn’t give anyone the right to do this. Come on. This is just crossing the line. Just respect people’s religion. Simple.”

Others are shocked Addison has got so much hate for the bikini. “Why are we all acting like Addison Rae is the first person to wear that bikini? I feel like that’s been around for years…”

After deleting the Instagram photo, Addison continued to post about her new line of toys launching with Walmart, and over on TikTok, her collaboration with collagen brand Vital Proteins.

GLAMOUR has contacted a rep for Addison Rae, as well as Adidas and is awaiting comment.
