A Surviving R Kelly follow up documentary has been announced on Lifetime after 26 million people tuned in

A two-hour follow up documentary special to Surviving R Kelly is coming out in May on Lifetime.

Surviving R Kelly: The Impact will be hosted by award-winning journalist Soledad O’Brien and will highlight the impact the documentary had since its release earlier this year and how it elevated the dialogue around sexual violence and being a survivor.

R Kelly, 52, has been accused of sexual abuse by several women and January’s docu-series detail the shocking allegations through a number of interviews with survivors.

The release of Surviving R Kelly, which has been seen by 26 million people, sparked a huge public outcry and started conversations around sexual abuse how it is reported.

The R&B artist was subsequently dropped from his record label at Sony RCA Records following the social media #MuteRkelly campaign.

Kelly was then charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual assault.

Surviving R Kelly: The Impact features footage from the original documentary along with interviews with legal experts, journalists, non-profit organisations and psychologists to discuss the ongoing situation.

Kelly’s now infamous interview with Gayle King will be covered and the women who still stand by him will be included also.

Surviving R Kelly: The Impact will air on May 4 on Lifetime in the US, a UK release date has yet to be announced.
