A Success for Hobbyists

If the past few months have taught us anything, it may be that a secondary form of income may be beneficial for longevity as a whole – we’ve recently seen that many have been devastated as the loss of jobs has become widespread and as working from home isn’t an option for all, but there are a lucky few who’ve managed to do quite well for themselves in this same period of time by using their hobbies to supplement their income. It falls into a few segments, but for most creatives it seems to have been a great opportunity to come at a time of disaster.

The crafty bunch – The first segment falls in with the crafty bunch, whether this be knitting, painting, sculpting, or any other form of physical creation. A number of sites have become extremely popular over the past few years to make these crafty people find a home to sell their creations, through platforms such as Etsy it has become a viable second job and during the pandemic with a little extra free time this has certainly rang true – so much so that there are some who have been provided the opportunity to permanently shift their work to this hobby, and as the saying goes, if you do something you love you’ll never work a day in your life.

The creative type – There have been other platforms that help the creative types too – think digital art, or musicians as just a couple of examples. Sites such as Fiverr allow users to set a price based on their skill level and offer a sort of freelance service to willing buyers, in a similar case the lockdown free time has led many to be able to establish what would essentially be a self-employed service as the extra time has allowed them to hone their craft and  gain a bit of a following for their business.

There are of course a number of other methods that some have used to build a little nest egg, whilst still being a hobby activity – primarily in online gaming. There has been a surge of new players using online casinos during this period of time to try and win a little pocket money, and despite recent changes to some regulation such as the Gamstop initiative which is aimed at reduced participation options for problem players. You can click here for a growing number of casino that have appeared to allow players additional places to play on and have been incredibly successful for some.

For many it’s time to return to the day to day grind of office life, but for others there’s still a bit of a delay yet – if you’ve got a streak of creativity within you, now may be the perfect time to use one of the many services available and see if you’re able to use that hobby to get a little extra, and who knows maybe even set you down the path of a new career once everything gets back to normal.
