A makeup artist transformed herself into a cartoon version of Kim Kardashian for Halloween

Based on Google search volume, Kim Kardashian West is one of the most popular Halloween costume ideas of 2019. So, needless to say, if you throw on a long, dark wig, a bodycon dress, and nude, matte makeup on October 31, you won’t be alone. But if you want to put a truly unique spin on your Kim Kardashian getup, look to makeup artist Lexus Pérez, who shared a brilliant interpretation of the reality star and beauty mogul on Instagram this week.

Pérez calls it “Kim K goes Tim Burton,” and it’s easy to see why. The photos she posted to her Instagram grid show she created a cartoonish yet distinctively glam makeup look on herself — one that combines Burton’s Corpse Bride aesthetic with Kardashian West’s signature contouring and neutral hues. The giant white eyes reach from her cheekbones to her brow bones; her false lashes are literally drawn on and made extra-dramatic with wings extending half a foot on each side; and in addition to amplified highlight and contour colors, her jawline, neck, and shoulders have been partially blacked out for exaggerated definition. There’s even a little drawn-on cleavage.

Amazingly, Pérez stumbled upon this look almost by accident. “It was actually 1 a.m., and I had an idea to do a ’60s-style woman and make it Tim Burton-style. I started to put on the wig and realized it was way too short for what I wanted, and I said to myself, ‘It kind of looks like Kim Kardashian’s hair,'” she tells Allure, noting that the finished product took about four hours to complete. “That’s when the idea popped up. I had never seen someone do this before! She’s so iconic in the beauty community, I really look up to her a lot, and I felt like my followers would love this idea.”

She was absolutely right — the look has gotten thousands of likes, and the comments reflect a totally awe-struck response. “IM OBSESSED WITH THIS!!” one commenter wrote. “Ughhh I don’t want 31 days of Halloween to finish just so I can keep seeing ur creativity,” another said, referring to how Pérez has been posting inventive Halloween makeup looks all month long, including a combination of four Disney villains, distorted eyes, and a “spider infestation.”

Amazingly, even though this is arguably special-effects makeup, Pérez used mostly products you might already have in your bag, such as the Milk Makeup Flex Foundation Stick, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Pro Pigment Palette Vol. 1, and Wet n Wild’s Fantasy Makers White Paint Pot. So if you start practicing now, you may be able to create your own version of this unexpected Kim Kardashian look in time for Halloween.
