The video game industry loves to pull some horrible tricks on us from time to time, and since we’re a community built on cheesing, speedruns, and tactical teabagging, you could argue that we deserve it a little bit, too. Pushing the idea of trolling to its very limits, there’s no such thing as ‘too far’ when it comes to pranking a gaming populace.
To get their own back on years’ worth of angry/passionate fandoms, we’ve had everything from fake adverts to misleading releases from our gaming dev overlords, building up hope and interest before smashing it to smithereens in the name of Ultimate Banter.
Even though we should know better than to believe a company will release a helmet you can stick your Wii remote into to control it with your face, we still will fall for it. Because that’s we WANT to believe, damnit.
Whilst April Fools day is prime prank material for the video game world at large, no time or place is safe from a good old fashioned troll. So let’s take a look at some of the most impressive moments that well and truly made us look like d*ckheads, as if we can’t laugh at ourselves, then we turn into Kanye West.
