SOME 81 pensioners a day will have died waiting for social care between the 2017 and 2019 Elections, Age UK warns.
A total of 74,000 will pass away between the polls.
The charity also claims 1.725million OAPs have failed to get the help they need with tasks such as washing and cooking.
This is equal to 1,880 fruitless claims a day from June 8, 2017, to this December 12.
Aid was not given because the applicant died, a local authority ruled they didn’t qualify, or they were directed to another service.
Age UK wants whichever party forms the next government to invest £8billion into social care over two years.
And it wants ministers to publish a “bold plan” to reform the service and “place it on a fully-secure financial footing into the future”.
One in seven pensioners are not getting the help they need with at least one task of daily living, such as getting out of bed and getting dressed.
Ministers promised a Social Care green paper for reform in March 2017 but it has been repeatedly delayed.
Age UK’s Caroline Abrahams said: “We have effectively wasted the last 30 months.
“Many have lost out as a result, including the 74,000 who had applied or will apply for a care service but who died or will die before a package was put together and provided.
“No one knows how many of these older people, if any, might have lived longer had they received care in time.”
