8 rarest and most valuable coins you can spot in your change worth up to £302


IF you spot one of these coins then you could end up making a tidy profit.

We’ve rounded up the eight rarest and most valuable coins according to ChangeChecker’s eBay tracker.

It checks the value or coins being sold on eBay every six months to find out how much you may be able to sell your spare change for.

It has found that the Kew Gardens 50p coin is currently selling for more than 200 times its value on eBay.

The coin, which was released in 2009, is known as the rarest 50p coin with just 210,000 in circulation.

At the moment the 50p is selling for £120, up from £97 in January, so it’s definitely one to hold on to if you find it in your spare change.

The next most valuable coin is the 1992-1993 EC commemorative 50p coin, which is selling for £60 on eBay.

They were made to celebrate the British presidency of the council of Europe and only 109,00 were made at the time.

They come in the old-style 50p size, which is bigger than the current 50 pence piece.

While an undated 20p coin is currently selling for £47.

The coin is one of a number of 20p coins which were incorrectly minted without the 2008 date.

While the Issac Newton 50p caused quite a stir with collectors when it was released in 2017.

At first, just 375 of the coins were put into circulation in Lincolnshire, the birth place and home of the famous scientist.

Slowly more coins were released into circulation – adding up to a total of 1.8million, making it the second rarest 50p coin behind the 2009 Kew Gardens.

The coin is now selling for £40.50 on eBay, according to ChangeChecker.

Next up is the Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games £2 which is selling for £30 on eBay.

Followed by the Jemima Puddle-Duck 50p, which is popular with collectors.

It was the third coin in the 2016 Beatrix Potter 50p collection, celebrating 150th birthday of the author.

Around 2.1million of the coins were released into circulation.

The coin is selling for £10.50 on eBay.

The last remaining rare coins in the index are the Olympic football 50p and the 2015 Britannia £2.

The Olympic football 50p depicts the off-side rule and sells for £7.50 on eBay.

While the Britannia £20 is selling for £5.

Of course, the value of a coin depends on the demand from collectors.

Is your small change worth a fortune?

IF you think that you might have a rare coin then you might be able to make a real mint.

The most valuable coins are usually those with a low mintage or an error.

These are often deemed the most valuable by collectors.

You should check how much the coin is selling for on eBay.

Search the full name of the coin, select the “sold” listing and then toggle the search to “highest value”.

It will give you an idea of the amount of money that the coin is going for.

You can either choose to sell the coin on eBay or through a specialist like ChangeChecker.org.

If you choose the auction website then remember to set a minimum price that is higher or at the very least equal to the face value of the coin.

Even if your coin “sells” on eBay for a high price there’s no guarantee that the buyer will cough up.

It its terms and conditions, the auction website states that bidders enter a “legally binding contract to purchase an item”, but there’s no way to enforce this rule in reality.

The most eBay can do is add a note to their account for the unpaid item or remove their ability to bid and buy.
