DC Comics and Warner Bros. have been focused on expanding their video game output, with DC Fandome demonstrating the wide variety of titles on offer over the coming years. Looking at DC’s timeline of game production makes it clear that there are some classics and hidden gems amongst the releases.
Plenty of titles and franchises have proven their worth in either sales, fan response, or simply through how fun the gameplay and narrative really are. With the future completely open to new possibilities, these video games deserve some kind of sequel or spin-off to continue their impressive legacy.
10 Arkham Origins (2013)
The Arkham series is one of the most celebrated video game franchises of all time, yet the Montreal Rocksteady-led Arkham Origins is perhaps a hugely underrated game. The idea of creating a prequel within such a beloved gaming series was going to be a difficult task to fulfill.
Yet the team expertly executed this concept, opening the doors for more prequel spin-offs within the Arkhamverse. It’s a shame that no other games of this type have been produced since its release, but there’s always a possibility for the future as Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League demonstrates the universe isn’t dead quite yet.
9 Arkham Knight (2015)
Arkham Knight rounded out the series with a bang, shockingly concluding the saga with Bruce Wayne’s seeming retirement or demise. While it’s unclear what will happen next in this universe, fans need some kind of sequel to wrap up some of the plot threads that have been left behind.
While some speculated that Gotham Knights might be the game to do this, the Rocksteady project is actually part of a completely different continuity. Arkham Knight continues to be amongst the best superhero video games of all time but for now, the likes of Azreal, Batgirl, Red Hood, and Robin will have inconclusive narratives.
8 Injustice 2 (2017)
The Injustice series is hugely popular and demonstrates just what can be achieved for the superhero genre through a fighting game format. Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios created a title that not only looked gorgeous but brought players unique gameplay and an original story as compelling as the comics.
Inspiring animated movies and graphic novel spin-offs, it feels as if there’s more narrative juice left to squeeze out from the saga. DC fans are clamoring for plenty of titles but Injustice 3 surely has to be amongst the most heavily demanded!
7 Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe (2008)
In regards to NetherRealm, the studio had previously played around with the DC characters in their Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe title, which pitted some of the most iconic characters of the console and the page against one another. It was a fun spectacle in every capacity.
The idea has spilled into the traditional Mortal Kombat games and Injustice, which sees characters from each franchise crossover. But, with so much work having been done to establish these worlds further in the time since its release, a sequel would certainly be welcome rather than simply adding Mortal Kombat characters to a potential Injustice 3.
6 Batman: The Enemy Within (2017)
Telltale Games is a really unique studio that unfortunately has suffered financially despite producing some incredible titles. Working alongside some major IP, Telltale actually produced some of the most universally praised Batman games in history.
Although their time may be up, it would definitely be interesting to see a final season from the Batman saga, or at the very least a DC spin-off that sees a different character get their unique treatment. In a game where decisions really matter, DC should make the right one here and license a final installment.
5 Gotham City Impostors (2012)
DC occasionally experiments with gaming platforms in an attempt to see how their characters may fit into alternative genres and experiences. Gotham City Impostors from Monolith Productions saw the studio attempt to cross the world of Batman over with a first-person shooter.
Although the mechanics of the game weren’t groundbreaking, the concept really worked with the title receiving largely favorable reviews. A spin-off would definitely be interesting, for DC to revisit the idea in the age of Fortnite, thus embracing the whole of the DC Universe within the fast-paced and action-packed idea.
4 LEGO DC Super-Villains (2018)
Has any LEGO title ever really disappointed? LEGO Batman was one of the earliest licensed products from the company and TT Games to really capture the minds of fans and DC never really looked back. Although that franchise garnered multiple sequels, the villains finally got their own chance to shine.
LEGO DC Super-Villains shoved the antagonists into the spotlight and allowed audiences to pick from an extremely deep roster, sometimes showcasing almost unheard-of villains in order to expand the gameplay options. The idea was a lot of fun and a sequel would be well-received once more.
3 DC Universe Online (2011)
DC Universe Online might be an example of some of the best handling of DC characters in video games. The MMORPG allowed players to create their own original characters and fight alongside and against some of the famous faces of the comic books.
With a new story to explore and an open-world format to travel through, there really seems to be no limits to what can be achieved in the ongoing Daybreak Game Company and Dimensional Ink Games experience. The platform feels as if it needs updating though; a remake or spin-off would introduce the game to a new legion of players in the modern era.
2 The Wolf Among Us (2013)
DC’s imprint comic line, Vertigo, boasted an incredibly popular series known as Fables. While the concept might have returned to the comics, there have been very few portrayals of this world on the screen; except in Telltale’s The Wolf Among Us.
Another title that focuses on the decisions that players really make, this is a great re-telling of the narrative with some new aspects brought in for those unfamiliar with the source material. The game might have had a complete arc but with rising interest in the property, a sequel to this underrated title would highlight the need for more projects in this style.
1 Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters (2011)
The Green Lantern film definitely didn’t represent the best of what DC had to offer. Nonetheless, it spawned a surprisingly good portrayal of the character in the video game form, from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The title actually told an original story separate from the movie.
It also made really good use of the Green Lantern’s famous abilities and demonstrated that even on older generation consoles, the power rings look absolutely stunning on screen. The title is really a perfect example of how deserving the Corps are of their own game and DC would be wise to produce a new continuity reboot/sequel/spin-off that abandons the film and honors what was learned on the game project.
