Zoë Kravitz's Big Little Lies Photocall Look Is Aeons Away From Her Last Red Carpet Turn

The last time we saw Zoë Kravitz posing for pictures, it was at the Oscars Vanity Fair party. You know the look: the gold Tiffany & Co bralet and black Saint Laurent maxi skirt. It ticked off both the brands she is an ambassador of and simultaneously garnered them a sizeable slice of publicity. Kravitz looked phenomenal.

Cut to April 27, and the Big Little Lies actor began the promo trail for the much-anticipated second series of the HBO drama wearing a tailored ensemble aeons away from awards season. For the New York photocall, she chose a yellow ribbed polo-neck knit and a black blazer worn as a dress. Blue velvet point-toe slippers were her only accessory and ruby drop earrings her only jewellery save for her engagement ring.

The pared-back ensemble with no obvious branding – even her stylist Andrew Mukamal chose not to name-check the labels on Instagram – is indicative of the style Kravitz adopted for the publicity moments surrounding the first season. Each actor in the dark comedy, which is based on Liane Moriarty’s same-titled best-seller, seemed to keep in mind how the full cast line-up photographs would look. Like Kravitz, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley chose largely monotone outfits and injected personality via accessories (Kravitz’s courtesy of the aforementioned brands, but also Gabriela Hearst handbags and Oscar Tiye pumps) or subtle embellishment.

Kidman, who joined Kravitz on the season two kick-off moment in New York, adopted the same best practice and wore a white mididress with ruching. No outré patterns or look-at-me labels were at play. How will the styling play out when the red-carpet premieres come around? Stay tuned for more bejewelled bralet updates and the politics of cast dressing.
