Zinedine Zidane has approved Real Madrid’s push to sign Eduardo Camavinga as an alternative to Paul Pogba, according to reports in Spain.

Camavinga has emerged as one of the brightest young midfield talents in France following his impressive performances for Rennes this season.

The 17-year-old’s progress has been closely tracked by Madrid, with scouts delivering glowing reviews of the midfielder’s performances.

According to Marca, Madrid were preparing their first bid before the coronavirus outbreak brought an abrupt halt to the season.

But the report claims that Zidane has given his full backing for Madrid to sign Camavinga, following the difficulty the club have faced with landing Pogba from Manchester United.

United have stood firm over Pogba’s valuation following Madrid’s strong interest and are demanding £150 million for the World Cup winner.

Rennes, meanwhile, have put a €100m (£89.6m) price tag on Camavinga.

But the midfielder’s contract expires in the summer of 2022, and reports have claimed that a €60m (£53.8m) bid would be accepted.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked with the 17-year-old.
