Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Super Mario Odyssey get Labo VR support

Zelda in VR is suddenly a thing that’s really happening

Two of the Nintendo Switch’s biggest games are getting a VR mode this month, with the whole of Breath Of The Wild playable in VR.

It was already a shock when Nintendo announced they were releasing their own virtual reality headset, but now they’ve revealed it’ll work with both Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Super Mario Odyssey.

The headset is made out of cardboard, as part of the Nintendo Labo range, and was initially thought to be more of a novelty – one we found highly entertaining when we got to try it recently.

But it seems two of Nintendo’s biggest games will also be compatible with the headset, with the entirely of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild being playable in VR.

Previous Labo ‘Toy-Cons’ have also received patches to work with existing games, notably the motorcycle and steering wheel controllers with Mario Kart 8, but that took a while to happen.

The Nintendo Labo VR kits, the basic version of which is £34.99, will be released on Friday, 12 April and the patches for the two games will be out just over a week later on 24 April.

But while the whole of Breath Of The Wild will be playable in VR Super Mario Odyssey seems to be limited to separate challenges, created specifically for VR.

The only problem is that the Labo VR headset doesn’t have any kind of strap – you have to hold it to your head the whole time (in part to make sure it gets a lower age rating). So either you’re going to get a very sore arm playing Zelda or you’ll have to jury-rig some kind of strap yourself.
