Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 release date NEWS and surprise Nintendo Switch update

Nintendo is reportedly moving ahead with development on Zelda Breath of the wild 2 on Switch at breakneck speed if the latest rumours are to be believed.

Fans hope to see the next Legend of Zelda game on shelves during 2020 and a new report suggests that might happen.

The original Zelda game on Nintendo Switch has proven a massive hit and the remake of Link’s Awakening has helped fill the hole in 2019.

So is Nintendo really planning Link’s next adventure for next year?

There’s plenty of commercial reasoning to do so and there have been reports of a growing development team behind the game in Japan.

But it would certainly prove surprising to see such a quick turnaround, especially when compared to how long BOTW took to arrive.

But there have also been reports that the sequel will be more ambitious than the first, which would suggest more time would be needed.

But according to one new report, the Nintendo Switch could see the next big hitter arrive in 2020.

Industry insider Sabi, whose track record with Nintendo leaks is second to none, has provided the latest update.

In a post on Twitter, Sabi claims that the plan is for Breath of the Wild 2 to launch in 2020.

“I would tell you Botw2 is planned to release in 2020, but Zelda release dates are historically delayed, internally or publicly LOL,” a post reads.

“This isn’t speculation, just current plans.”

As a direct sequel to Nintendo Switch launch title Breath of the Wild, the bulk of the assets will already be in place, which should lead to a faster development cycle.

But as noted in the original leak, there’s still a good chance of Zelda being pushed back to another year. And if Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 isn’t ready by late next year, perhaps Nintendo has other Link adventures in mind?

As confirmed in the new financial report, Link’s Awakening has sold over three million units up to September and will make for compelling reading.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa referenced the success of this title and how the company will gauge future projects like it.

“Regarding the future, there is no clear directive to release remade titles,” Furukawa-san said.

“On one hand, in our 30 years of game console business we have made many past games that have been played by many people, which have left strong impressions on them, and this is a very valuable asset to our company.

“Nostalgia is one great appeal, but even in remake titles, what’s more, important is to create new game experiences, fun, and more.”

For now, Zelda Breath Of the Wild 2 does not have an official release date.

The very basic information we know about the project is that it will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch console.

There’s also a good chance that BOTW 2 will be another huge seller for Nintendo and will be a big part of their plans moving forward.

From the short trailer shared by Nintendo, fans are expecting a darker tone and more multiplayer options.
