Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 could be the biggest selling game on the Nintendo Switch when it is released.
Following the success of the first game, it’s easy to see how the sequel could surpass the first in terms of sales.
Not only would there be plenty of people waiting to get their hands on the new Legend of Zelda adventure, but more consoles will have been sold by that point.
And news this week suggests that the Nintendo Switch could be arriving in a massive new region before the new Zelda game is launched.
And that would mean an established sales base in place for when Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 arrives.
It was recently revealed that Tencent would be handling the launch of the Nintendo Switch in China.
There is no set release date for the console in the massive gaming region, but it seems likely to be in place for the launch BOTW2.
Niko Partners commented on the Nintendo presence at ChinaJoy, a big gaming convention in the country, adding:
“While Nintendo has only had a limited presence in China before, its IP is popular across the country and sales of the Switch have been extremely strong through grey market channels.
“The Nintendo booth was extremely popular with long queues to play four games on display. The PlayStation booth was also popular as it focused on titles from Chinese developers including Monkey King: Hero is Back, a PS4 exclusive game based on the Chinese novel.
“Genshin Impact was the flagship game at the PlayStation booth and from what we saw was without a doubt, the most popular game.”
So when could that be happening and how long could fans be waiting for the new sequel?
According to one recent rumour, Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 could be launched in late 2020 or early 2021.
This rumour cannot be verified at this point and should, therefore, be taken with a big pinch of salt.
It adds that the new Legend of Zelda will have a darker tone and will have a slightly different title to reflect that.
There is also speculation that BOTW2 will have some kind of multiplayer aspect to it, although this is another unverified rumour.
What we do know is that whenever the new game does hit the market, it will have access to China, a massive new region for sales.
