It can’t just be us that immediately flinches in fear of Miranda Priestly’s wrath every time we consider ‘florals‘ a major trend, regardless of whether it’s spring or not. But hear us out. This new take on your favourite print really is groundbreaking.
Not only is it for autumn (see! Groundbreaking), but according to the brands showcasing at London Fashion Week next season’s floral aesthetic will be a whole lot more grown up than we’re used to.
A far cry from the chaotic, almost abstract mixture of varying petals splashed across our favourite dresses and blouses that we’ve grown to know and love, for autumn/winter 2021 things are far more stripped back and low-key. We’re talking *one* flower (radical, we know) repeated throughout your look. That’s one shape, one colourway, and sometimes even just one size.
While that may sound a little dry, if anyone can persuade us of the power of practically any trend it’s the designers at London Fashion Week.
Pioneers of compelling artistry and (we may be biased but) undoubtedly the creative capital of the world, when they pitch an idea we rarely hesitate to jump on board.
So, come September, you can expect to see us decked out in nothing but pared back florals.
Yuhan Wang, who set out to “explore how time, space and spirit connect women together, and how nature is an ever-present teacher”, showcased some of our favourite takes on the new trend, debuting coat dresses fashioned in floral jacquard prints and beautiful pastel dresses with an air of 19th Century elegance that we’d be just as happy having on our walls as we would our clothes.
Emilia Wickstead’s digital runway on Monday may have comprised predominantly of monochromatic looks, but her occasional venture into prints shared similarly pared back romanticism.
Lemon-gold and cobalt-blue rose prints decorated pristine white pieces in an effortless yet formulated fashion which by no means lacked in sartorial drama; something that our lockdown wardrobes have been craving for the best part of a year.
