The classic anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone has soared to the top of charts amid the coronavirus outbreak.

It seems the British public are turning to the uplifting song, first performed in 1963 by Gerry And The Pacemakers, to get them through the quarantine lockdown.

The track zoomed to number one thanks to a staggering 150 per cent jump in streams, the Official Charts Company revealed.

Why, you ask?

Well, it’s Liverpool FC’s anthem and might be providing comfort to fans who’d been expecting to get this year’s Premier League title by this point in the season.

Either way, it’s a treat for the ears and we’re chuffed with the resurgence.

The Official Charts Company found out this gem by analysing tracks that were more than five years old and had suddenly experienced a percentage uplift.

Second in the chart is Akon’s 2003 hit Locked Up, with Don’t Stand So Close To Me by the Police taking the third spot.

We’re a darkly humorous bunch, we really are.

Also in the top 10 and getting us out of bed during self-isolation are the upbeat pop songs, Reach by S Club 7 and Move Your Feet by Junior Senior.

While, the more mournful among us have been listening to Frank Ocean’s Lost, John Lennon’s Imagine, and REM’s Everybody Hurts.

There’s all sorts of other bangers in the top 100, including The Bee Gees’ Stayin’ Alive (nice), MC Hammer’s U Can’t Touch This (brilliant) and Jason Derulo’s Ridin’ Solo (why the hell not).

People aren’t just turning to their playlists for comfort during this lonely, lonely time – they’re also binge-watching Netflix like no other.

So much so that Netflix UK could be set to earn £15 million extra per month as viewers turn to watching their favourite shows.

Coronavirus UK lockdown: key points

The key points of Boris Johnson’s historic address are as follows:

Mark Halstead, from the business intelligence firm Red Flag Alert, told Metro.co.uk: ‘In the UK, it’s reasonable to assume a 15% increase in new Netflix subscribers, which is over 1.7 million more people using the service each month.

‘This could be worth more than £15 million in additional monthly revenue to Netflix.’
