Brad Pitt has won his first acting Oscar for his role in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood at the Oscars 2020 in the Best Supporting Actress category beating the likes of Al Pacino and Tom Hanks.
Brad played the stunt double of Leonardo Dicaprio’s Rick Dalton in the 1960s inspired film by Quentin Tarantino and when taking to the stage to accept his award from Regina King the 56-year-old started by saying: “They told me I only have 45 seconds up here which is 45 seconds more than the senate gave John Bolton this week. I’m thinking maybe Quentin [Tarantino] does a movie about it. In the end, the adults do the right thing.” OH, BURN.
The quip is the latest in a long list of digs that have littered Brad Pitt’s acceptance speeches this season. This time around he referenced John Bolton who testified at President Trump’s Senate impeachment trial.
The actor went on to dedicate the award to, “my kids, who colour everything I do – I adore you”, before paying tribute to Once Upon A Time’s director, Quentin Tarantino, who he described as, “an original … one of a kind. The film industry would be a much drier place without you.”
Brad, fighting back tears, went on to dedicate the award to his parents, with his mother watching from the front row, and his co-star, Leonardo DiCaprio whose coattails he was , “happy to ride … the view’s fantastic.”
Brad finished the speech by saying, “‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,’ ain’t that the truth,” after detailing how he moved to LA after packing up his car.
The speech comes a week after he didn’t attend the BAFTA Awards and left it to Margot Robbie to deliver his speech which was filled with digs at the royal family with The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge sat front row. Awkward but absolutely hilarious.
Speaking backstage after winning the award, Brad responded to claims that he has employed a writer for his award season speeches. “Historically I have been really tentative about speeches as they make me nervous. This time round I wanted to put some real work into it. I have some very funny friends who have helped but it’s got to come from the heart.”
Another reporter asked, “what is your Tinder profile going to say now?” To which Brad responded by laughing, “you will have to look it up.”
