You can now buy a candle that ‘smells like a newborn baby’

PoundToy has created a Newborn Baby Candle – which combines notes of baby shampoo, sweet milk and talcum powder.

The brand says it’s perfect for parents whose children are no longer tiny, explaining on its website that ‘you can breathe in the scent of a newborn baby long after your bundle of joy is out of nappies’.

Priced at £14.99 (plus £3.49 delivery), this unusual product burns for 80-100 hours. 

According to PoundToy, the candle would be a perfect gift for a baby shower or for a new mum – although some might argue this seems slightly pointless when new parents have the real deal themselves.

Instead it might be a better gift for older mums feeling nostalgic about the baby bubble.

But how does the new candle actually compare to the reality?

We asked mums to share what comes to mind when they think of a ‘newborn smell’ – this is what they had to say…

Rhiannon tells Metro.co.uk: ‘I think they smell of yoghurt and a bit vomity, but on a good day just clean, soft and cosy.’

Claie adds: ‘Although there will always be times when your baby smells like nothing except poop, the overriding scent I remember from my newborns is a lovely milky, soapy aroma.’

While Helen says: ‘Newborns smell like love – it’s like a warm smell and almost musty.’

The jury is still out on whether this candle is cute or slightly horrifying.

Although, the fact it’s currently out of stock online seems to suggest there’s a demand for it.

Bizarre candles seem to be a big thing for 2021.

Just a few months ago another brand brought out one that smells like a croissant – arguably a more popular scent than milky newborns.
